Introduction to CNC Programming

For apprentices, inspectors, toolmakers, machinists, CNC operators, engineers, production supervisors

This hands-on course provides training in the setup, operation, and basic programming of computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Instruction will be given for both the CNC mill (vertical machining center) and the CNC lathe (turning center). After this class students should be able to setup and operate CNC machines, use inspection equipment, and troubleshoot various production problems. Students will also learn how to read, interpret and manually create CNC programs. Programs that students develop and simulate off line will be run and debugged on the actual CNC machine tools for which they were written.

Time Commitment: 80 hours over 16 sessions (at Oakton Community College) / Cost: $575

Advanced CNC Programming

For apprentices, inspectors, toolmakers, machinists, CNC operators, engineers, production supervisors, CNC programmers

This hands-on course is a follow-up to MFG 144 and allows greater depth in the design and production of CNC programs. Advanced programs are simulated off-line and run on CNC machine tools. Canned cycles, cutter compensation, macro programming, and sub-routines are covered in detail. CAM software is introduced and used for planning and simulation.

Time Commitment: 52 hours over 16 sessions (at Oakton Community College) / Cost: $575
